About this Event
Interested in a career as a producer? Get hands-on with this cover-all class, led by industry pro Justin Brunelle of Moving Artistry Productions.
Producers Lab is the level-up of FAVA’s hit class Intro To: Producing, an immersive, hands-on workshop that teaches the art and craft of producing through the creation of a hypothetical short film.
Over eight sessions, students will follow this fictional project from development through delivery, learning how to navigate each phase of production with real-world tools, strategies, and decision-making. Structured around a $25,000 production budget, the course combines lecture, group discussion, practical exercises, and now a collaborative out-of-class project in tandem with FAVA’s staple course Video Lab to put your new producing knowledge into practice.
Students will engage in everything from script breakdowns and budgeting to scheduling, crew assembly, crisis management, post-production planning, and final pitching. Alongside the core lab project, students will also have the opportunity to begin developing their own short film ideas and deliver a low-pressure pitch during the final class, applying what they've learned to a project that excites them.
Designed for early-career filmmakers who have completed the Intro to Producing course (or equivalent experience), this lab is ideal for those ready to take their producing knowledge from theory to execution and who are eager to lead creative projects with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
More about Justin: In 2011, Justin founded Moving Artistry Productions, a full-service video production company in Edmonton, Alberta, where he continues to lead with a commitment to cinematic excellence, collaboration, environmental responsibility, and stories that connect audiences to the often unseen parts of our world.
Program disclaimer: Program fees are due upon registration. Unpaid registrations will be removed to make room for other students.
